If you're on this site, it’s likely because you’ve been hurt by a place and a people who were supposed to reflect God’s love.

You're not alone.

In this honest, unflinching, and deeply personal account, Seth invites readers into the raw journey of healing from “church hurt.” Through stories drawn from real experiences of betrayal, rejection, and disillusionment he offers a voice of empathy, a call to hope, and a reminder that while God’s people may fail us, God Himself never will.

This book is a companion for those walking through the wilderness, struggling to reconcile their wounds with their faith.

Whether you're freshly wounded or decades removed from the moment that broke you, this book is for you.

Because healing is possible. Hope is real. And yes, by the grace of God, you can still love Jesus and even find your way back to His Church.

“This book is deeply pastoral, theologically grounded, and practically redemptive. It is powerful — and needed.”

How to get hurt offers clarity, compassion, and hope. It pulls off something rare: writing about church hurt without becoming cynical or bitter. That balance is what makes this book special.”

About Seth

Seth Johnson has been Julie's husband for over 20 years and is a father to Jillian and Jonathan.  His family is his first ministry.

Additionally, Seth is an ordained minister who was raised in the church and has spent his entire life serving it. With decades of ministry experience in both small congregations and large church communities, he brings a deeply personal perspective to the joys and heartbreaks of life in ministry. Through seasons of leadership, transition, betrayal, and healing, Seth has learned what it means to hold fast to Jesus—even when it feels like the church has let you down. This is his story, but it's also a story for anyone longing to believe in the beauty of the Body again.
